Hey accountants, do you have information about any tax benefits to buying a hybrid american automobile? I am considering buying a new hybrid Chevy Malibu, when they become available in the spring. Do you have any information about what the 2008 federal and state (Ohio) benefits may be, if any, to buying a hybrid vehicle. If there are could you direct me to any website or link for more information. When spending that amount of money everything figures into a purchase and we were curious about the tax benefits if any to buying energy aware.

Would you purchase a plug-in electric hybrid automobile even if it cost $10,000 more than your typical auto? What tradeoffs, if any, would you be willing to accept to get a plug-in hybrid? I am not necessarily advocating plug-in hybrids, however, it should be noted that a plug-in system that would access power from the grid would be more efficient and lead to less polution than they way we are currently doing it, which is each auto has a combustion engine......which is more inefficient and polluting than a coal power plant.....or nuclear for that matter. You can be more efficient when you have fewer sources of generation. I find it amazing that opposition to plug-ins usually comes from the left wing. they are opposed to any form of energy, every solution is a bad idea as far as they are concerned.

It is unlikely to ever go back down to the price it was then. The best solution to date is driving a hybrid automobile which can inrease fuel mileage as much as 50% for in-town driving.

Where are all the hybrid automobiles? I know Big Oil is a major presence on Capitol Hill, but why are there so few hybrid models on the market? Is this an example of politicians doing what they do best--talking out both sides of their mouths? They preach about the importance of the environment and then they turn around and do nothing about gas prices. The bottom line? The government receives tax revenue (huge amounts) while the public pays for gasoline. Hybrids undermine this. There would have to be a good amount of change for hybrids to totally dominate the market, don't you think?

Why not go with clean diesel fuel? It is the most viable available solution right now.? First of all let us get down to the corruption of all of this hoax created by Al Gore which is nothing but a scheme to put the public in fear. This will stop all of the money going out to create bogus programs. Next, let is realize that hybrid automobiles mpg results have been overinflated by the corrupt EPA. Since they have been caught, now they are doing real world tests. Now, let us look at what Europe is doing with automobiles. CLEAN DIESEL. These clean diesels consume far less fuel than gasoline motors of the same size. They are getting quieter, no longer smoke, and are as fast as gasoline cars in some cases. Mrs. Speaker, I challenge you to drive one of these cars and you will be surprised. However, I think the public should decide on whether Global Warming is true or not. I do not want you and a hand full of others control our lives when we vote you in there to work for us.

Should a law be put in place that required all automobiles manufacturers to build only hybrid cars? We all know that automobiles contribute to the greenhouse gases in our atmosphere. Would it be unrealistic to require all automobiles made after a certain year to be hybrid? This would certainly reduce green house gases. Is it true that lust for gasoline is more powerful than love for your country? It is a given fact that gasoline purchases by Americans results in direct revenue and weapons for islamic terrorists in the middle east who kill our troops and devise attacks on our country. This includes any sale of international oil from any other country because that is what drives up the prices for the terrorist-countries, including Iran, from whom we do not directly purchase oil. We know that by improving miles-per-gallon on average a few points, we would be free of non-domestic oil. Now, it is true that many people truly need large suv's, or trucks, because of a business, for example land-scaping, or because they have 5 or 6 children, etc. But we all see the millions of suv's, trucks, and sports cars that are simply used to drive back and forth from office jobs and the store, etc, a function that could easily be done with a hybrid-electric automobile (as I do with mine). So, do these people, truly just have a selfish lust and don't give a damn about our troops and country?

If the automobile industry bids up oil and gas to prices we cannot afford will that force us to buy hybrids? Does anyone have a complete list of all automobiles that get 40+ miles per gallon? Several years ago, in the early eighties, I had a 1980 model compact car that easily got 35 mpg in the city, and 40 mpg on the highway. This was more than twenty-five years ago and this automobile was no hybrid or flex fuel car. I am looking for a comprehensive list of all vehicles that obtain at least a true 40 mpg.
Future cars...Hybrid sport? Can automobile companies like toyota or Honda create a sport car but Hybrid? Maybe the car body is Honda S2000 but engine is Honda Civic Hybrid...or the car body like Pontiac Solstice but the engine is Toyota Prius....and under$25K.....
