How many mpg does a smart car get? How much do they cost and are they safe and how many people do they seat?
Apart from being low on MPG is there any real benefit to a Smart car? I mean you still have to sit in traffic and how many small parking spaces are there in our towns and cities? They are also really dangerous in an accident and handle very poorly! Quite cute to look at i agree but a bit pointless i reckon!
How about 80 miles per galllon for your car -? Where are the Smart Cars in the US ( 85 mpg )? Why Not --- No car with an address in any city in Canada or the US should have a motor in there car that is over 100 horse power unless they have a special permit. Too many people are driving there Hummer to the mall with only one person driving and watching an IN DASH DVD player going there while talking on the phone. Green house gasses could be cut in half if this could be done in all of North America. Look what happened after the gas line ups in the 1970s. What do you think? - This is what is going to happen and this is the future so we might as well start talking about it right now. It will be in very short order, a world project!! Be the frist on your block to do so
Can Smart Cars be operated on the interstate ? & how many MPG ? Anyone already test driven them on the freeway ?
Does emission testing take into account MPG or distance traveled while burning? ? I have just read that many cars in Europe get well over 60 mpg. Specifically the Smart ForTwo gets 82 mpg. The high MPG model Smart car is not available in the US because it does not pass our emissions. In the US the Smart car only gets 32/40 MPG. I have trouble believing that burning twice the fuel to get somewhere is better for the environment. Does emission testing take into account the MPG or distance traveled while burning?
Which care would be the best to get, a Smart Car, or a Mini Cooper? Looking at the specs of the ones I was interested in, the regular Mini Cooper with lowest price around $19,000, with about 32/37 mpg, or the Smart Passion around $14,000 with about 33/41 mpg. Of course I'd add options to both and the prices aren't perfect, but close. With options, it might set the Mini up higher pricewise.
What is so smart about the smart car? Its either made by Chrysler or Mercedes Benz but they're tiny little cars made out of plastic I think. Somebody please tell me what is so smart about a car that only gets 40 mpg (crap for how small it is). Acclerates like crap, would probably kill you instantly if you were in a wreck, (what is their to protect you?). Is highly likely to get run over by a car changing lanes. And has no room for more than two passengers or any groceries. I keep seeing one of these things putting up and down my street, what the heck is so intelligent about it?
Should they give away a free closed casket funeral with every Smart Car purchase? I got a good look at the new "Smart Car" yesterday. If the federal government had allowed Ford, Chrysler, & GM to ignore all the safety rules we would all be getting 50+ MPG. Take away the EPA and we might be getting 100+ MPG. Instead they have deliberately destroyed the domestic car manufactures with over regulation.
What are the pros and cons of buying/owning a SMART car? I'm looking at SMART cars, and thinking about if i should get one.. what are some pros and cons of SMART cars? Cost, mpg, repairs, etc...
Why is Smart Fortwo 70/80mpg in Europe but only 40+mpg in USA? is Daimler in cahoots with the Big Oil companies?
Is the struggling American Automotive Industry doomed to failure with the Magic )o( s 2016 MPG standards? Will we all be in Smart cars. No not cars that are "smart", but Roller Skates the size of the tiny cars called Smart Cars. What about us full size people? What about families with several kids? What if you need a pickup truck to work out of. Wait, "sorry", Demcomms don't have to "work" they just share our wealth. )o( s every where you look.
Why would anyone buy a "Smart" car over a Toyota Yaris or a Honda Fit? They cost about the same as normal economy cars and they have less room. Is the car really worth getting for 6-8 extra mpg's?
Is it smart to short oil futures? Ok, so for now the world market on oil is skyrocketing, right? Probably in part due to the fact (to name a few things) that the average car consumes more gas than it did 20 years ago (24mpg now instead of 26mpg in 1987), the fact that the booming economy promoted high spending on big SUV's and other gas guzzlers in the past years, the fact that as our cites get larger commuting mileage and time increases, and a result of the US having more toys consuming excess energy than we know what to do with (to name a few things). Well what is going to happen when all the automakers start coming out with 70-100 mpg cars and other industries begin to promote higher energy efficiency and/or alternative energy sources (and build new nuclear reactors)? Isn't that going to dwindle the demand for oil by more than half? Shouldn't that be reflected by a drop in oil prices? If so, wouldnt selling the oil companies short when we see the 200 day moving average price peak be a smart bet, or perhaps investing in companies that profit directly from oil prices dropping (like power and/or natural gas)? We should try and think about the effects these high mpg cars and other energy saving applications will have on industry and invest in what makes sense. Who spends the most on fuel? When the price eventually drops they will be making all that much more profit since we know they would never give any price breaks. There has got to be money to be made here. Perhaps looking at what made money in the early 80's after fuel hit its last peak cycle and dropped in price. Any ideas on where the most money would be made from oil dropping and energy usage becoming more efficient.
Anyone seen this smart car? In all the tests in the magazines I have read the best they have gotten fuel mileage wise is 42, smart claims 60 mpg. Most times it got in the low thirties mpg wise. I don't get this vehicle, I like it for its size but I am not impressed by its mpg. Especially when you consider its so small. A honda civic by comparision is much better - can carry more of everything and is almost as efficient.
Is it smart to try and make a statement about High gas prices (cont.)? by driving to work with some guy in a $45k 4x4 pickup that gets 9 MPG, followed by a motorcade of Suburbans? Additionally, if you have a $45k 4x4, and are getting 9mpg is a temporary lifting of the 19 cents gas tax significant to you?
What do you think of the newer Smart Car for the US? They say these 1000cc ones will have 40mpg. But bigger hybrids get that or better. Is this car doomed to failure? They should leave it alone. The 700cc version gets about 70mpg. I know a friend that has one and took me for a ride in it. Kinda neat. I don't understand the huge difference in mpg with 300cc. Any comments? http://autos.yahoo.com/articles/detroit_auto_show_2007/41/;_ylc=X3oDMTFnNXNlNGJmBF9TAzI3MTYxNDkEc2VjA2ZwLXB1bHNlBHNsawNjb25jZXB0LTAzMDcwNy1zbWFydA-- Actually my friend would drive her car very far for commuting. That is why she bought it, to save on fuel. I was surprised how roomy it was. It is very much like a covered motorcycle. I would not worry about getting smashed by an SUV. The car had plenty of pep.
I will be getting a new civic ex coupe (2006) very soon. Any suggestions on improving MPG even more? My thoughts have been replacing the stock air filter with a K&N, and of course driving smart (since It will be the manual tranny). Any other suggestions?
the Smart Car? someone told me about a Smart Car that will get 50 mpg and i looked them up and they are not that ugly. I remember a guy in montery California that had a 2 cylinder honda and he said it would get 50 mpg but this was back in 1989 and i wanted this car so bad but he wouldn't sell it to me. It needed a part that had to com from japan but i didn't care. what do you think about these new cars that 30 to 50 mph's
How do you convert a Windows Movie Maker video to a DVD using Click to DVD? I need to convert the video to either a mpg or avi. How could I do that? I'm not smart with computers, so please type in words I can understand.

My video and Sound drivers are installed and working thou. what is my problem i really need some help. Im a graphic designer and video animator and i need this fixed for work please help..........!!!!!!!!!
How safe is the new Smart Fortwo? I saw a video the otherday of a Smart car crashing into a 35 mpg offsetbarrier and it look like a disastor! There was no way anyone would survive that crash next to a Hummer or a Toyota Camry even! My question is then what is the minimum safety rating in America to allow such a vehicle on the road? Is it very low? I have also been doiing research on the subject because our office is looking to buy a few for local transportation and I do not want to drive such a vehcile. On the internet is loads of stories about people flipping this thing over just from hitting a curb! Also I saw a picture where a person was cut in half when they crashed into a semi-trailer! Scary stuff. How is this thing allowed here?
i know how to make cds but cant make dvds.? i have tried so hard. I have them downloaded. I have a dvd burner on my pc. I am using the right kind of dvd's. I have nero express/smart start. It has the option to make dvds but it doesnt work. sometimes it says file incompatible, sometimes there is a copyright i cant get past, i just dont know what to do and i know people make dvds all the time. Also, what is the diff. between avi, mpg, mov,and mpeg? Can u give me step by step steps on how to do this? I will appreciate it to the extreme.
35MPG econo-box? New minimum milage standards will soon be forced upon us.I drive a pick-up out of necessity(16 MPG on a good day),also have a "Smart" car on order. What punishment should I accept for needing a truck? To All: It was early and I was still working on my first pot of coffee;but I swear that they said something about recinding the Truck/SUV milage standard exception. fretless, Cargo and towing capacity both require high horsepower to weight ratios. There are trucks on the market that get 35 MPG now;problem is that they won't tow a high weight or high wind resistant load nor do they have a large cargo capacity.
How do i burn a DVD? Ok now i have Nero Smart Start installed on my computer and I've got a ton of mpg video files i want to burn onto my Memorex DVDs but every time i go to burn them it says the file is not compatible because it needs to be in a movie video format (.ifo or .vob), what i want to know is how do i convert or burn my videos to this DVD?
smart car owners, sales people or mechanics? Please can you tell me how often does a smart car need to be serviced and what dies it cost. Also what MPG will i get on the motorway 70-80mph.... thanks
Is it possible to import a VW Polo into the United States? I am looking to import the Polo because they have a diesel model that gets 70+ mpg. I talked to an importer who told me that the NHTSA has a list of cars you can import and that you would need $15 million to properly test the Polo and bring it in. This just doesn't sound right and they guy is a Smart Car dealer, so he might have been trying to steer me in that direction. Anyway, I really just want the great fuel economy and the ability to use biodiesel....anyone know how I can do this?
looking for someone to help me get over 200 mpg on my toyota prius solar? dont know!? im looking for an electrical engineer to tell me, show me, how to convert my toyota prius into a solar powered car, that the car recharges from the sun, rather than it switching over to gas engine. i read a guy from california did something like that, and he got 250 some mpg, i live in the sunshine state so i get enough sun. or a shop that could help me?? come on all you brainiacs that tinker with everything, with the price of gas, nows the time to let people know how smart you really are!!!!!
is anyone else hopeful?? are their others out there like me that are hopeing that dodge gets smart and offers the 3.2 liter mercedes diesel in the dakota?? i currently own the 3.7 lt gas v-6 and it gets approx. 21mpg. i hear that the 3.2 lt diesel that is in the mercedes line gets over 30 mpg and has loads of torque. 360 ftlbs compared to 235ftlbs for the gas model. i also would love to have the durability of the diesel since i like to keep my vehicles for 300k!!!!!
Eco Rebates In Canada/Ontario? So im looking around to buy a car and the smart car was raised by a friend of mine, he went on about how it was a safe car and how much gas it saves and all that, but both he and I are unsure of how much money you get back from the government. If anyone knows how much the Federal government gives back and if the Provincial government gives any rebates as well can you post it! Thanks Will P.S. I am aware that the Prius has better MPG
My Computer crashes whenever i play ANY* video file for ex .wmv files .avi files and .mpg files whats happenin My Computer crashes when ever i try to play .avi .mpg .wmv or any other video file. I've tryd with all players Zune, Windows Media, Real Player nothing works! I dont even know why checked my computer for bugs and nothing was there. AND IF ANYONE IS STUPID ENOUGH TO ASK AND THINK THAT THEYRE SO DAMN SMART! Yes it does work with Youtube and other things that need Flash because its not an actual video file...
Some questions about smart car?? I'm thinking about getting a smart car as my first "new" car. My parents are going to help me and they are concerned about it being too small. I drive a lot and the 45 MPG really appeals to me My dad wants me to get a Kia Spectra.. It will cost the same but it has lower fuel economy. He thinks those smart cars are not safe and silly looking. ( I'm a Counter Strike playing Biotech major.. that's sorta my personality) Anyw000000t. Anyone know about these cars.. or have better suggestions.. Also Kia is having a deal this weekend so that's another reason he's interested. both of those cars are twice the cost of the smart car... not an option.. that voltwagon would have been nice i tell ya
Smart Car tipping? I'm not sure if anyone here is aware of it, but the smart car is officially in the U.S. and ugly as ever. Car companies are so freakin stupid, did you know that if you put a small diesel engine in the smart car it would get a minimum of 70 mpg highway and 60 city. 40/45 for something as stupid as that? It's basically a safe slow motorcycle. with worse mileage. People act like it's some sort of milestone, well screw chrysler and daimler. it seems like car companies are half a55 saving the world. Onto the tipping, if you've seen 'em, they look very top heavy and I was wondering what situation you think would be needed to tip one over. How many guys, would it be possible just to rest it on its side? this is purely hypothetical and just kinda an inside joke between me and some friends.
2000 - 2004 Nissan Frontier MPG?? I read on Vehix.com that a 2000 Nissan Frontier V6 Crew Cab (which is what im looking for, or through a 2004) only gets around 15 mpg City, & 19 mpg Hwy. And with the way gas prices are, I don't think I could afford putting gas in a truck like that, much less make it to work. But I need a truck. And I've always loved Frontiers. Inside and out. Or would a 2005 or newer Toyota Tacoma Double Cab be better? Because I know Toyotas can take a beating and still be up and running, and I'm only 17 years old, just a kid, and I'm sure you know how kids are with their foot in it all the time. So what would be a better small truck to buy that gets good gas mileage? Or what could I do, or buy to make either of the trucks do better on gas? Something's like, cold air intake, exhaust system, or maybe that Tornado Fuel Saver thing??? Does that really work? Any advice would help A LOT. thank you for those who don't leave smart remarks. Much appreciated.
Is the US Auto market screwed up on purpose? This big hoopla introducing the SMART car. For WHAT? They've had bigger, roomier, more fuel efficient cars in Europe for YEARS now. The BMW 1-series diesel gets 45mpg with a top speed of 147 and room for 4 plus groceries. I'm supposeed to get excited about this SMART death-trap with barely room for 1 person and no cargo? It also gets around 45 mpg. What gives?
Will Smart ForTwo be a success in the U.S?its expensive and not that efficient.? I don't think Americans will like this car. Don't get me wrong,I am one of those people that gets labeled a 'treehugger' often by my collegues but Smart ForTwo isn't that economical or gas efficient for that matter. According to www.smartusa.com, at the faq section, the bast price starts at $11,600, then 13,600 for a higher one, then 16600 for the highest trim level. and using 2008 EPA MPG calculation method, it will only average around 33/41. I mean come on, there are cars like fit,Civic,Yaris,Versa,Sentra that gets just as good mileage and cost about the same. The car just looks unsafe and I wouldn't dare to drive that piece of crap on the highway. so if efficiency was the same and the cost is the same, would you buy a car that doesn't look like a wheel chair that can't fit more than 2 people ?
smart car?? Good idea!? i am looking into getting a smart car, with gas prices soaring over 4 dollars a gallon, my 2008 hyundai sonata, just is wayyy too much of a gas guzzler. i have a 30 mile drive to work and i have a payment on my sonata of 300, i have 0% fiancing for 72 months, and owe $19,500 on it. But with smart cars retailing just under $12,000 im thinking it might be worth it. i know if i trade it in i will owe a few thousand, but i think i might be able to come close by seling my sonata myself. my sonata is only getting between 18 to 22 mpg to work, i drive about 16,000 miles a year, and simply cant afford to have a gas guzzler. so is it really worth it to buy a smart car??? is it a good investment??? and i dont take the highway to work. i drive all surface streets 45mph and lower
is the smart car really very smart at all? I've seen articles about it, I was rather dissapointed with the gas ##s, I expected it to be like 50 or 60 mpg but instead it's average, same as a honda civic. And the price? Dissapointing too, also around the same as a honda civic or toyota corolla. And safety? Forget it. So why are so many people going to buy them? They don't seem that smart in my opinion, the only advantage is that there easyer to park. Just for liberals to feel good about themselves, in my opinion. hahaha i know i'll get flamed for that last line
More Percise MPG? In a perfect world, at the moment you fuel light comes on, there’s a gas station, the next part of this comment is based on that being accomplished. I go fill up at X gas station and the pump cuts off with being able to add 2 gals of gas, so at that gas station you pumped 10 gals. At gas station Y, the pump maybe cut off with being able to pump in 3 gals, so I only get 9 gals in. And gas station Z cuts off with being able to pump 1 more gals of gas, so I was able to get 11. Now in all 3 instances you were able to drive 250 miles. X: 250 Miles / 10 gals = 25 mpg Y: 250 Miles / 9 gals = 27.8 mpg Z: 250 Miles / 11 gals = 22.7 mpg So with these results, you can see that there is a variance of about 5 mpg which in today’s economy can be 50 extra miles to a tank of gas. Now to get a better average, you can always average those results. So my question is, without buying a car that has the smart computer to do this calculation for you, how do you get a more precise mpg calc.
Is America ready for The Smart Car? The Smart Car officially debuts in America in early 2008. From the website: Engineering and testing continues to take place on the vehicle that will be produced for the United States. The vehicle is designed to achieve 40 plus mpg under normal driving conditions and current standards. The gas tank of the smart fortwo is 8.7 gallons. The rear storage area can also accommodate many sizes of luggage making trips to the airport convenient. The smart fortwo pure will start at $11,590, the smart fortwo passion couple will start at $13,590 and the smart fortwo passion cabriolet will start at $16,590. http://www.smartusa.com/
MPG lost when hitching a car behind and towing...? My husband and I are moving about 800 miles away and we are trying to figure out if it is a smart option hook my car up on a tow dolly or drive separately. We aren't sure which would be cheaper in the end - - But my question is - does anyone know how many miles per gallon you "lose" when towing another car behind? I read that my husbands car gets 20 MPG highway (and those are always over estimated) - so about how many miles would he get pulling my car (an Alero)? If anyone has some insight that would be great! Thanks!!!!!
What is your opinion on scooter/mopeds? Do you think it is smart to ride them because of the mpg, or do you think it's geeky and funny to see people riding their scooters in the street lol?
Why do modern day compact cars get less MPGs than older ones? I had a 1985 Nissan Sentra 1.5 that got 41 mpg regularaly it died @ 287,000 miles I also had a 1985 Toyota Tercel 1.5 that regularly got 40mpg It died @ 334,000 miles both were carburated and had 5 speed manual transmissions A new toyota Yaris is quoted @ 36 mpg, A Chevy Aveo is quoted @ 34mpg. The Smart car only gets 43mpg
What car in the U.S. has the highest MPG? I heard that it is Mercedes Smart Car. Is it true?
Windows Movie Maker Import Probs? Hello all! I have a problem with Windows Movie Maker. I'm trying to edit some movie clips and when I import I get the following message"The file...........MPG is not valid because it does not contain any information" I have imported the same file format before and not had that problem, so I'm baffled as to why this should be happening now. No smart alecs please
If the chrysler smart car is so "smart", why is it still short of Hondas (20 year old) 1987 CRX HF (51/60MPG) This critter boasts a whoppin 40 mpg on a 3 cyl dsl engine. Neat, but power and cost ineffective when compared to a 20 year old Honda CRX HF, which boast a top speed well over 100, and a 0-60 time muuuch better than that of a diesel. The true question is...who will run with the fad, and who will get wise, and go on e-bay, and buy a Honda for $8-15 thousand less, thus making use of cars already produced, in turn, reducing production of yet another fuel sucker. I've driven a Honda HF, and it lacks nothing fortwo. Sqeuze me, for a two seater. Just a side note...Japan may not have strict emisions controls in place, but they have compact police cars that look like ferraris, and their cars traditionaly get remarkable fuel economy. This can be a lesson learned, or a lesson missed. Your call.
Info on Mercedez Smart car? Whats the estimated mpg fuel economy? (I saw on a site that poeple have been getting only 32) Whats the price? (can you get one right away?) If the fuel economy is not so good, why get one? You can get a full size sedan that will avg. at least 34 mpg
I have a 15ft Catamaran with a 40hp evinrude, Should I go bigger on the engine size? The boat is quite big for 15ft. it's 6ft wide an only drafts 5in in the back fully loaded + me. i got this 40hp evinrude outboard an mounted it an tuned the engine an got the right prop for it an it gets GREAT hole shots an tops off at 42MPH *GPS'ed* an is getting about 6miles per gal which is amazing for a 2 cycle. But my question is i have a opportunity to give this older man my 40hp engine for his 70 hp 2 stroke yamaha. it's a 2004 an low miles. * he totaled his bigger boat an got a smaller one with no engine an still has his 70hp with him * So I was wondering if it would be smart to upgrade to a higher hp engine an would it still give me that good gas mileage like my 40hp? Because someone told me that if I have a bigger engine that means I can have more pitch in my prop an that will make it to where I can run the bigger engine at a lower RPM which means better MPG. So that would be smart..right?
