Smart Gas Mileage Knowledge Base

What the gas prices rising nonstop, what new car gets the best gas mileage? I am looking to buy a new car but needs something fuel efficient. Any good cars out there with good gas mileage? Any Hybrids besides the Prius ? No smart cars please.
What is the average gas mileage on a Vespa Scooter? I have always been intrigued by vintage Vespa scooters and with the price of gas where it is, I am looking into purchasing one just to go to work everyday. I know there are different engine sizes, but I was wondering what a rough estimate would be. Also, would ebay be a smart choice to shop for one or are their better options?
How big of a gas tank does a 1992 four-door oldsmobile cutlass supreme car have? How much gas can I put in it and what is the gas mileage for it if you could please help me with this im not car smart and I just got this car thursday.
How much gas mileage ...? Does a smart car get? are there any better ones?
Does Your Gas Mileage Improve By "Drifting"? I saw a guy on CNN that was getting an avg. 50 mpg. from his 1999 Honda Accord with 5 spd. manual. Of course he took it to extremes. (and really annoyed other drivers) So I tried it a little more conventionally with all in town driving and still running the A/C. But also driving like a little old lady. After adding a K&N air filter, I drove 200 miles between fill ups. Anytime that I estimated a stop would take more than 30 seconds, I'd shut off the engine and "drift" in neutral to the light, etc. I thought this was pretty smart. Well I got about an extra mile per gallon or 200/11.5 gal.=17 My 2001 Ford Taurus 3.0 FFV drinks about as much gas (if not more) as a Crown Vic. coming in @ a revised at 16/18. How is your gas mileage doing and are you doing anything special to improve it? http://www.fueleconomy.gov/
Ford Mustang GT vs Gas mileage? I want to buy a ford Mustang GT 2007, but I know it's a fuel guzzler. I've always wanted this model since it came out, but I'm concerned with the price of gas going up. I know it would be smarter to get a Toyota Prius, but I don't want the economy to dictate what i should or shouldn't get.
Does anyone know if and where the Smart Car is selling in the US? A friend just sent me this information and I have been thinking about replacing my old compact for a couple years though it still runs well as the gas mileage is lower than the newer ones. Have you seen the SmartCar, it's looks like a clown car but they get about 60 miles to the gallon. I don't think they are selling them in the US but we are only about 15 miles from the Canadian border and you can buy them up there. There are quite a few around here, in bright colors. The small one is a two-seater and they have a bigger one that holds 4. They run about $8,000, but I don't think the US will allow them a dealorship because they just don't use much gas.
Looking for better gas mileage.? I drive a '99 Honda Civic. Gets 28 mg/city, 35/hwy. So that's really good, right? Well, I've been very intrigued lately by the Smart Car. Gets 33/city, 41/hwy. You've seen it, the 2 seater from Mercedes. Well, I've been tossing around the idea of getting a Smart for around town and keeping my Civic for when I need to go out of town - since I don't want to drive the Smart on the Highway! In your opinion, would this be wise? Any opinions from some Smart owners would be wonderful. I just wonder if there is anything wrong with this car, since all I've heard is good things. Thanks!
Anyone own a "smart car" are they worth it? For nonwork I am looking at one, but right now they have a waiting list. Still they have crazy good gas mileage and only 12k
Mileage Correction? Do I need to figure in a correction for my larger tires when figuring gas mileage? or are these new cars are so smart they do it for you? 97 Ford Explorer
would it be smart to have an every day driver if i get a four inch lift and 33" tires on my jeep wrangler im affraid that if i get the upgrades ill get crappy gas mileage, and that offroading would maybe break my vehicle then i couldnt get to work or something. Should i look into getting something else to drive around back and forth to school and work and then just use the jeep for offroading, or will i be safe just getting a four inch lift with 33" tires and still using it to drive back and forth to work.
How will Americans react when Smart cars start becoming more available and more common? In case you have absolutely no idea what a "Smart car" is, look at www.smart.com--it's an offshoot brand that belongs to Mercedes. I lived in Germany for several years and they've been around for about ten years now; they're very economic, get superb mileage, and for their size, they're safe (you wouldn't want to be in an accident with a semi in one; but you wouldn't want to be in an accident with a semi in ANY car.) Most Americans I know have either never heard of them, or scoff at them due to their size and appearance; but given how much Americans are complaining about gas prices (which, I remind you, is STILL far less expensive than most places in the world), you'd think they'd over it and consider smaller, more economic cars like a Smart as a viable option. I've already started seeing a few of them here in the U.S. since I returned from Germany, and it's reassuring... but I'm curious to know how folks will react when they become more readily available and more well-known... It's mindboggling how many people here in the U.S. insist on buying ridiculously large and very uneconomic vehicles here, and not have any legitimate reason for having bought it (such as needing it for regular towing, or having an abnormally large family, or owning a business where you have to haul around a lot of stuff--I consider those to be "legitimate" reasons to own a large vehicle). However, most trucks, SUV's, and other large vehicles I see choking up the freeways are only occupied by one person, usually some yokel gabbing away on a cell phone, hanging out in the left lane without having a need to pass, and otherwise oblivious to their surroundings. I think the main reason most Americans get large vehicles is a mix of ego, and mistakenly thinking that Larger=Safer. Probably more ego, though. (Can you tell that I miss driving in Europe?...) ;) I'm all about used cars; they just make better financial sense, regardless of what car you're talking about. That's a good idea, too, converting your Cherokee to propane--I don't think it's that common but I've heard of folks doing it, and propane sure is a heckuva lot cheaper than gas. I've heard that they even sell kits now, if you want to convert your vehicle to propane; certainly a viable option, if true.
What kind of car should I get? I want a new car, but don't know what to get....I like a smaller size 4 door. I like luxury interior, lots of "extras" I think it would be smart to get good gas mileage concidering gas prices, I want it to look sharp, not like a granny mobile Oh, and price....like to keep it under $25,000 any ideas? lots of good advice, but who is the wise guy that put all the thumbs down on the answers? I think all the answers were good ones!!!
Do you have a smart car? I was thinking about purchasing a smartfortwo and was wondering how well you liked yours. What are your likes and dislikes? What kind of gas mileage do you really get?
New mufflers- now i have horrible gas mileage? I have a new impala ss. i just bought Magnaflow mufflers for it and switched the factory ones. i can see a huge decrease in my gas mileage. what can i do to fix this and what is causing it? I am NOT constantly pressing the gas harder to hear the sound. i am smarter than to do that. even when i am on the highway, and i put the cruise on so i am not hitting the gas, it uses more than gas than usual.
Will Smart ForTwo be a success in the U.S?its expensive and not that efficient.? I don't think Americans will like this car. Don't get me wrong,I am one of those people that gets labeled a 'treehugger' often by my collegues but Smart ForTwo isn't that economical or gas efficient for that matter. According to www.smartusa.com, at the faq section, the bast price starts at $11,600, then 13,600 for a higher one, then 16600 for the highest trim level. and using 2008 EPA MPG calculation method, it will only average around 33/41. I mean come on, there are cars like fit,Civic,Yaris,Versa,Sen... that gets just as good mileage and cost about the same. The car just looks unsafe and I wouldn't dare to drive that piece of crap on the highway. so if efficiency was the same and the cost is the same, would you buy a car that doesn't look like a wheel chair that can't fit more than 2 people ? Sorry, I don't mean this to be any sort of mockery to smart owners, but merely I am mocking the car itself. Basically what I want to know is, will anyone buy this car when there are other cars on the market with almost equal pricing and efficiency but fit more people. Its only Smart for2, not Smart for4 u know.
I just got a call from SmartUSA regarding my car reservation. Does anyone here own one already? Feedback? Looking for feedback on anyone state-side that already owns a SMART "ForTwo". Being asked to finalize my order and wanted some input from those who already own one. Which options did you choose? What color scheme? How does it handle? Gas mileage? Any problems so far? Etc, etc. The models offered are not the same names of the original UK models, they are the "Pure", the "Passion" and the "Passion Cabriolet". Details here: http://www.smartusa.com/smart-car-fortwo.aspx
1984 Jaguar XJS. Smart Buy? I am thinking about buying a 1984 Jaguar XJS. It doesn't have the V12 in it anymore it now has a Chevrolet 350 with a GM turbo 400 transmission. It is in really good condition, but would this be a smart purchase for me. I am a college student with a part time job. What is the gas mileage and insurance like on a car like this? Thanks.
Smart car, good or bad? Looks like an awesome car, but is it? What's the gas mileage? How much do they cost?

Could someone who is good at math help me please? I want to figure something out but I have a learning disability in math and I have been out of HS for 4 years this month. What I want to figure out is, how much money would I need for gas if I were to drive from where I live to Orlando florida and back. the total mileage both ways is 2,922 miles and the vehicle I would be taking gets about 1/4 tank of gas for 79 miles. I'm thinking the average price for gas would be $3.00 per gall. If you need to know any more info, ask. but if you're really smart that should be enough,I think. Thanks! PS: this is info I need to plan my honeymoon, so thank you in advance for helping me figure this out.
luxury vs. gas milage? I currently own a Lincoln Mark that gets 15 mile per gallon, would it be smarter for me to buy a cheaper pick-up and also buy a car with better gas mileage but still sporty and luxury? if so, what are your ideas of cars? as for a car, either the jaguar xf or Lexus GS. The question would be, is this a good idea, and how long before it would make a difference to purchase one.
should i get this car????? i don't know if what i am thinking is smart or not so somebody help me please!! (LOL) ok i have a 2004 trailblazer that is in good condition and so far has been a great truck. i owe maybe $7000 on it (may 21 more payments). it has 96,500 mileage. i am thinking about doing a trade for a honda accord if it is not too much more for the car. i don't want higher payments than i am paying now but i am sure i will have something to pay. i could live with 36 months. my reasoning is it is a newer car (maybe around 30,000 miles) hopefully a lower car note also a cheaper gas bill. it's killing me now. and i don't think it's getting cheaper anytime soon!!!!
Is this story good? i'm a terrible speller, get over it. not to mention its only a rough draft..... but thank you for reading
Anyone have a Honda Smart? Wondered what gas mileage they and if you're happy with it. Gas mileage? Sweeet. I have a Honda Fit, but am disappointed with gas mileage, not as good as advertised. More like 20/30 mpg and I drive sensibly.
I have a 15ft Catamaran with a 40hp evinrude, Should I go bigger on the engine size? The boat is quite big for 15ft. it's 6ft wide an only drafts 5in in the back fully loaded + me. i got this 40hp evinrude outboard an mounted it an tuned the engine an got the right prop for it an it gets GREAT hole shots an tops off at 42MPH *GPS'ed* an is getting about 6miles per gal which is amazing for a 2 cycle. But my question is i have a opportunity to give this older man my 40hp engine for his 70 hp 2 stroke yamaha. it's a 2004 an low miles. * he totaled his bigger boat an got a smaller one with no engine an still has his 70hp with him * So I was wondering if it would be smart to upgrade to a higher hp engine an would it still give me that good gas mileage like my 40hp? Because someone told me that if I have a bigger engine that means I can have more pitch in my prop an that will make it to where I can run the bigger engine at a lower RPM which means better MPG. So that would be smart..right?
Is the "Smart Car" sold here in the U.S.A. ? I read the questions of others asking basically the same thing but didn't get an answer that was acceptable. I want actual locations if it is being sold here. I was in one in Sweden and WOW it is small on the outside but roomy inside... hard to believe ! Time to think of super savings for gas mileage. Thanks
2000 - 2004 Nissan Frontier MPG?? I read on Vehix.com that a 2000 Nissan Frontier V6 Crew Cab (which is what im looking for, or through a 2004) only gets around 15 mpg City, & 19 mpg Hwy. And with the way gas prices are, I don't think I could afford putting gas in a truck like that, much less make it to work. But I need a truck. And I've always loved Frontiers. Inside and out. Or would a 2005 or newer Toyota Tacoma Double Cab be better? Because I know Toyotas can take a beating and still be up and running, and I'm only 17 years old, just a kid, and I'm sure you know how kids are with their foot in it all the time. So what would be a better small truck to buy that gets good gas mileage? Or what could I do, or buy to make either of the trucks do better on gas? Something's like, cold air intake, exhaust system, or maybe that Tornado Fuel Saver thing??? Does that really work? Any advice would help A LOT. thank you for those who don't leave smart remarks. Much appreciated.
Why do rich people need to drive expesnive cars? I used to live in an area that bloomed into "richville" or "snotville". Basically, alot of the millionaires in washington state have come to live here. I gew up here (sammamish) from 5 years old to 18 years old and am I every happy to be out of there! I was a dog groomer there before I moved..... everybody that brought their dogs in had Bentleys, Escalades, Corvettes, BMW's....... all the pricy cars. If you see a car under the year of 2000 then there must be something wrong with you (according to these people). One family had 2 Bentley valued each at $200k. My question is, why do "most" rich people throw away their money on something that continue to drop in value (cars)? and have VERY bad gas mileage? My dad is not rich but well off and he still drives around a '93 Toyota Camry, because he prefers to be smart and keep that money and use it for more important reasons.
Is it smart to sell my nissan maxima for an xterra? I have a 2004 Nissan Maxima SE with 62K miles on it...I love the car but I"ve always loved having an SUV more than anything. I was looking at the 2005 Nissan Xterra's, I feel like it's a step down though as far as the models go. The maxima is very luxurious but also has that sporty feel to it, but the xterra is just awesome and I figured now that gas is back down it should be ok to get it. When gas was so high that was the sole reason that made me choose the maxima over the xterra. The X-terra's I was looking at had either the same mileage or less and they went for about 11K - 15K, my car is worth about 12K i think. I don't know if it would be smart to trade it in and just pay the extra couple thousand or find one thats close to the same price and see if the dealer will do a trade. What's your guys opinions?
smart car? are they really that great? they are coming out in the US next year and idk if i want one. apparently the gas mileage sucks for distance trips.
Three wheeled car out now? Someone wrote: "The best if you wanted to save A LOT of gas,and commute well, would be a Smart car. Also lately i have been seeing cars that have 3 wheels, and get good gas mileage and are good for commute, i don't know the name of them but they have 3 wheels, so you could look it up." The only one I know of is the Aptera (http://www.aptera.com/), and I thought that wasn't in production yet. So what's on the road now that has three wheels and good mileage?
Is a 2008 Honda CR-V a good SUV/Crossover to buy? I'm looking to buy a new car and have fallen in love with the new Honda CR-V's...are these a good choice? I know I could do much better gas mileage wise, but it's the best mpg I've seen on an suv. Is this the smart way to go? I'm really tall (6'0) and small cars like a sentra or corolla are just to little for me. Anybody that has owned a CR-V have any advice? Has anyone ever had trouble out of one, or would highly recommend? All help is appreciated! (by the way, I'm looking at a 2wd, which has slightly better gas mileage)
how much money is the average car? i like the smart car. it cost around 17,000. would that be too much? it gets amazing gas mileage. so yeah.... do any of you have the smart car? if so, do u like it?
Why do American car companies make such poor cars, it is smarter for us to buy a japanese car? Why could american car companies not figure out that we wanted better gas-mileage and more reliability out of our cars.
Tiny Cars...? I saw a Smart Car on the Pennsylvania Turnpike yesterday. They're big in Europe because they're small and get good gas mileage, but they're like a four foot cube with 6 inch wheels. I don't really think they're safe for over here in the USA. Or, at least I don't think they should be allowed on the highways with all of these stupid drivers. What do you think?
Smart Car or Toyota Yaris(two door)...? I'm a new driver and never owned a car before. In my opinion, a smaller car is easier to drive (and park). I like both of these cars because of their size, price, and gas mileage. Which one do you think I should get? Which one would you get? If there's any other small car you'd like to suggest, please do so. Thanks in advance.
Thinking of trading/selling current car for a Pontiac Fiero? I currently own a 1990 Buick Lesabre, with only 107k miles and it's a wonderful daily driver. My problem is, after having a RWD Buick Roadmaster, I have a thirst for some more power at my feet. Although the 3800 V6 is decent, it's not the greatest thing in the world. There is a Pontiac Fiero for sale down the road from me, and I have heard many great things about the car. I was wondering if it's a smart move, for my enjoyment and for my gas mileage, to trade/buy the fiero and sell the Buick afterwards? I love my Buick, but it just doesn't have the fun/power I'd like. Any feedback from Fiero owners would be excellent! Thanks a lot!
Questions about Smart Cars??? 1. Whats their gas mileage? 2. What is some service and matinence info about them? 3. Resale value? 4. Insurance?
$2,500 NEW CAR - Why not sold in USA? It passes safety, emission, and other international regulations. Tata Motors produced the worlds cheapest car with 59 mpg and is coming out with an all electric version. The 59mpg car has 4 seats. The American produced Smart car has only 2 seats and has terrible gas mileage. You could get the same mpg from a Smart car from a lot of big trucks and suv type vehicles in the usa right now. Why is this car not sold in the USA I am sick of this. Tata motors has a lot of cooler looking larger vehicles that are considerably cheaper than American models. The Tata nano 2,500 model meets all international standards. Why is it not sold in the US. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fX64M_1qN0s
Is it smart to short oil futures? Ok, so for now the world market on oil is skyrocketing, right? Probably in part due to the fact (to name a few things) that the average car consumes more gas than it did 20 years ago (24mpg now instead of 26mpg in 1987), the fact that the booming economy promoted high spending on big SUV's and other gas guzzlers in the past years, the fact that as our cites get larger commuting mileage and time increases, and a result of the US having more toys consuming excess energy than we know what to do with (to name a few things). Well what is going to happen when all the automakers start coming out with 70-100 mpg cars and other industries begin to promote higher energy efficiency and/or alternative energy sources (and build new nuclear reactors)? Isn't that going to dwindle the demand for oil by more than half? Shouldn't that be reflected by a drop in oil prices? If so, wouldnt selling the oil companies short when we see the 200 day moving average price peak be a smart bet, or perhaps investing in companies that profit directly from oil prices dropping (like power and/or natural gas)? We should try and think about the effects these high mpg cars and other energy saving applications will have on industry and invest in what makes sense. Who spends the most on fuel? When the price eventually drops they will be making all that much more profit since we know they would never give any price breaks. There has got to be money to be made here. Perhaps looking at what made money in the early 80's after fuel hit its last peak cycle and dropped in price. Any ideas on where the most money would be made from oil dropping and energy usage becoming more efficient.

Good, new, inexpensive, Small cars? I've been looking into the Chevy Aveo, Ford Focus, Saturn, and Smart Cars. I can't think of any other small cars that aren't expensive. We want base model, next to nothing on it. Just want the good gas mileage lol.
i have questions for anyone who owns a smart car? not really sure where to even start... 1) is there enough room to sit in there comfortably or do u get a feel of being closterphobic? 2) how much did the total come to... what features were worth it/what weren't.. (like the radio, heated seats, panorama roof, etc...) 3) is there a trunk in the back? so far all i have to look from are pictures.. 4) any glitches or things you wish you knew before you bought the car? 5) and finally, hows the gas mileage/ how much to fill the tank? hope somebody can help, thanks!

It is being produced and sold all over Asia to include russia, and india.
As of Apr.3rd,09 which American cars have the best deals going? With so much talk about rebate, how do I know which car to look for. I'd like a small 4door,something with good gas mileage. Is it smarter to buy new, or second hand? What's a good counter offer if say the dealer offers 17 Thous? I presently have a 2003 Alero with 72 thous. miles. Paid in full.
What does it mean for America that Chrysler is going bankrupt, selling to Fiat? I like America, I wish it had made smart cars that were gas guzzelers and then screw up like it did when the harder times hit. I hope the other motor companies manage to fix their outlook to make cars that have some of the focus on mileage and slimmer design so they can stay on in the competition... What do you think it means for America that Chrysler will be sold to Fiat? Are we going to lose a piece of our foothold as the greatest nation?
Which car is better? My parents are buying me a new car, and I'm having a hard time deciding which one I want. I want something rather roomy on the inside, with good gas mileage, 4 doors, a smooth ride, a sunroof, preferrably a v6 engine but I know that's a long shot.... Anyway. I've narrowed it down to a few choices: Honda Civic Maza6 Nissan Maxima Toyota Camry So, my question is, out of these 4, which do you think would be the best and smartest car to buy? And if you have any other suggestions on cars that meet the criteria I mentioned above, please feel free to include that in your answer, as well. Thanks!
