- did you see the crash test of the smart car? it was so bad nobody would live thru it. go look on you tube for the video
- I would never buy one of those, too dangerous!! Last time I saw one of those it was in Reno Nevada. Get you a VW!!!!
- NEVER, Thanks to Ralph Nader, the hater of all micro and minicars after 1970 this is why he hates them.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZ9zdHsZ4jI and if you like the pre 1970 models look here, http://www.microcarmuseum.com/ Smart cars are currently only available in the United States as "grey market" imports, such as ZAP. U.S. federal regulations allow certain grey market importing in large quantities provided the vehicles are modified and tested to conform to U.S. safety and emissions regulations. Smart cars are imported into the United States by The Defiance Company LLC, modified by G&K Automotive Conversion, and distributed and sold by independent dealerships which are not affiliated with Mercedes. U.S. regulations do not permit the purchase and import of used smart vehicles from Canada, as the diesel powered Canadian smarts do not meet American emissions regulations[citation needed]. In June 2006, DaimlerChrysler confirmed that smart will be officially launched in the United States in the first quarter of 2008. The cars will be offered through dealership holding company Penske Automotive Group, which is to create a new U.S. dealership network for the brand under the name smart USA.[4] Initially, only an updated Fortwo will be offered, starting around $12,000.[5] The new model made its debut in at European auto shows in November 2006. (We will see if that Happens as Mercedes and Chrysler have gotten divorced) http://www.syracuse.com/articles/business/index.ssf?/base/business-8/1179219499121750.xml&coll=1
- What are these morons talking about? The smart car is the only vehicle that can crash at freeway speeds and walk away! Morons, listen and read, don't just watch, there are many reports of the smart car being safer than 99% of vehicles on the road. I hate Americans. Anyways, you can buy them already in the states.
- Smarts may be small but they are actually really safe. I work in Santa Ana, California and there's a Smart car distributor about 1 1/2 miles from my job. They are sharp looking and I've seen a few on the freeways here. Maybe the rest of the country hasn't received them yet since usually Southern California gets new brand marque cars at least six months before everyone else. Scions were like that as well. When we started getting them at our showrooms, the rest of the country were just getting a first glimpse at auto shows ofScions they were getting the following year. Anyway, the Smart was surprisingly safer than most of the cars on the road in crash tests from what I've read. Trust me. I went to shool for automotive design and there were many safety questions when these cars were first considered for the US market. They surprised everyone and performed very well. Will I own one? No, because I am a two minivan owner with a wife and three kids.
