Which is better for a first time car owner? A toyota Yaris or a smartcar fortwo?

I am turning 16 this year and my parents said I need to get my own car. will it for the rest of high school and college and maybe even beyond. I have looked at the yaris and the Fortwo and really liked them both. They are both in my price range (under $15k) and both seem like good cars for a first time owner my age. I just wanted to know which do you tink is better performance wise and mpg wise. I'm not scared of those big cars or anything. my sister owns a yaris and I practice driving on it alot. I already have the "feel" for it. and I'm not scared of those big guys

let me ask you this, would you really want to drive that car with big ass SUVs and hummers driving around???
ya no smart car it goes like 50 mph max and yaris is better of the two but buy something used it will be cheaper price and insurance price
try a mazda 3...better rated, and more for value

i perfer a yaris, nice four door hatch, great first time car, not really that big but its up to you Good luck
of these two the Yaris is the best choice but the Honda Fit is about the same price and a much better car. for example the Honda comes with anti-lock brakes & curtain side air bags while these are only an options on the Yaris. have you driven the yaris yet? I found it a noisy car and hated the center mounted gauges. you sit at a strange angle and I found the car a bit unsafe feeling when driven at higher speeds. The yaris starts out at a lower price but once you start adding on options it adds up quickly. the Honda's back seats fold flat making a lot of space for such a small car. the smart car is just not enough of a real car yet. it's slow and jerky maybe good for short trips but just not ready to tackle the hwy. so if your sold on the Yaris & the smart, buy the yaris but if you want much better car for a little more money buy the Honda Fit
