Smart Car or Toyota Yaris(two door)...?

I'm a new driver and never owned a car before. In my opinion, a smaller car is easier to drive (and park). I like both of these cars because of their size, price, and gas mileage. Which one do you think I should get? Which one would you get? If there's any other small car you'd like to suggest, please do so. Thanks in advance.

1. buy a car with some balls (horsepower)! you cant replicate the feeling of going fast with saving money
2. Minis are also very fun cars. Toyota Scions xA (the less boxy one) are comfortable cars as well. When you're first driving, a small, reliable, fuel efficient car can be a life saver. Pay attention to gas mileage as well, because even with a decently fuel efficient car, you're going to be paying 50 bucks in gas a week.
3. Smart is actually made by Mercedes but has a very small dealer network and is new so it would likely be hard to service. The Yaris is a better bet with Toyota it is time tested and you know it will stand up and if you have problems it is easy to service.
4. Yaris, smart cars arent so smart when they get hit by SUVs.....
5. well for price i like the yaris better, because toyota is known for there reliability and Mercedes which makes the smart cars isn't. also i think that the smart car is so small that it would be dangerous on the highway. if you want a little luxury i love the mini. the mini has good gas mileage and great safety features. but that may be a lil out of your price range because they start @ $20,000. i like the way a mini handles better because even though its small it doesn't sacrifice power, the mini is a racing car and it handles like a go-kart but that style of handling ist for every one so just go test drive some vehicles to see which 1 is best for you, also about the minis is that if you get a lot of customization done on them then you must custom order the mini which is made in oxford so you might have to wait a few months to get your car, but i think that it would be worth the wait
6. Buy a Toyota, smart car will be expensive to service and repair. If you go out of town and you have car trouble, you will always find a Toyota dealership, but will you find a smart car dealership? Toyota is a better car.
7. unless youre basically just driving in the city all the time, dont buy the Smart. the Smart Fortwo is basically only for people who need to get to work everyday in the city. also, the 70hp 3-cylinder engine only gets up to about 85 mph at its fastest, and the engine isnt as economical as it should be. the Yaris is a good choice. it gets about the same mpg as the Fortwo, but has much more power. other good cars are the Mini Cooper, the Honda Fit, Honda Civic, or Toyota Corolla.
