1. I'm not sure. It doesn't look the safest, escpecially when your on the highway. If you going to spend that much or get a new car, I'd go with a Kia Rio or a Ford Focus. The Rio and Focus get good gas milleage, and you can get an 08 Rio for 10 grand.
2. Yes! for a college car - as long it for light (carrying load) travel & short distance.
