With high gas prices would it be smart to trade in my 02 Taurus for an older more gas efficient car?

I am looking at trading in my 02 taurus for an older more fuel efficient 4 cylinder, is this a smart idea? the car is paid off. Thanks for any input!

1. anything older wont be more gas efficient. I have an 07 Nissan Altima and it gets great gas miliage. about 400 miles to a tank
2. A 2003 Honda Civic would be good.
