$2,500 NEW CAR - Why not sold in USA?

It passes safety, emission, and other international regulations. Tata Motors produced the worlds cheapest car with 59 mpg and is coming out with an all electric version. The 59mpg car has 4 seats. The American produced Smart car has only 2 seats and has terrible gas mileage. You could get the same mpg from a Smart car from a lot of big trucks and suv type vehicles in the usa right now. Why is this car not sold in the USA I am sick of this. Tata motors has a lot of cooler looking larger vehicles that are considerably cheaper than American models. The Tata nano 2,500 model meets all international standards. Why is it not sold in the US. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fX64M_1qN0s

  1. It's not economically feasible at this time. Maybe in the future.
  2. I lived in India for three years and had occasion to drive a Tata. If you want to buy one of those then feel free. What you save in gas you will more then spend 10 times over in repairs.
  3. Does it meet US EPA regulations? Does it meet US DOT Safety regulations? If so, buy one. And who cares if it passes safety, emission and other international regulations, if it can't pass the requirements to be licensed or driven in the United States.
  4. If you want one so badly move to India, otherwise have it imported pay taxes both ways and then have fun driving a car that is prone to have parts that are easily damaged.
