What the best fuel-efficient car which also has good performance?
My vote would go to the BMW 330d - 245hp and 49.6mpg (imperial gallons) 0-62mph in 6.1secs Must have: at least 200hp and at least 35mpg (this works out at about 29 combined in the US). So Corvettes or Subaru Imprezas definitely do not count as fuel-efficient lol. R32 only does 29mpg, so thats nowhere near 35... Im assuming the US civic is the same engine as the UK Civic type r, in which case, its 31mpg, 0-62 in 6.6secs. So both of those are nowhere near the BMW. As for the VW, it doesn't have good performance and isnt even on sale yet. And yes, more expensive higher performance cars do tend to have high insurance.

- I would go for the VW r32..they have power and real fuel efficient.
- 2009 Honda Civic Si 200hp 35mpg highway 0-60 in 6 sec
- Here is a 200+ MPG car http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_1-litre_car
- You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here - autoinsurance.hotusa.org
- Honda's are very fuel efficient.
- fundamentally - this question makes little sense. 1st of all like most bmw's, the new 335 diesel is relatively slow, and while handling is ok its not outstanding...i assume you are referring to the 335d, rated at 265hp at the crank (much less at the wheels) it manages to get to speed (0-60)with a low boost twin turbo, and even then at 6 seconds its not so fast. so any performance of consequence comes only when the turbo is engaged, which means the estimated mileage ratings are never based on engaging the turbo. ...so without the turbo its just another relatively pudgy 3 series that most decently tuned cars will break away from at the get go. problem 2....bmw generally is so-so on dependability scale and certainly in terms of shop rates, maintenance and repair at the highest end of the scale....so save a little money on gas mileage and pay it away and more so every time you change the oil. so whats your question....mileage or performance wrapped up in this new diesel? high priced/high cost maintenance?......like i said what's your point......there are a lot better cars out there than the beemer, and maybe they do not get the rated highway mileage, but certainly cost less to upkeep, are faster , handle better and don't have to scout for a diesel refill. quite frankly if i want performance i am not going to fuss about the fuel guage or mileage ratings, because high shift points, thrill of a good exhaust sound and enjoyment of going wide open throttle will always defeat mileage ratings....and its no different in this new 335d....either you buy it to enjoy the thrill of a turbo'd motor and being able to - occasionally - beat a modified mustang, wrx sti, from the get go, ot you drive it like a civic for mileage. like i said confusing, if not a stupid question. regards
