- not bad but a prius gets better gas milage
- I'm scared to die in one. No, I wouldn't buy it at all. Too darn small.
- no 1. if you crash in them, your pretty much dead 2. transmissions in them are horrible, they dont shift properly 3. they take premium gas-costs more money 4. they claim to get 40mpg, but in reality, its only 30, i own a car thats twice the size, and 3 times the safety, and still get 34 mpg, and i only have to use regular gas overhyped pieces of crap
- Not for everybody, but if you need a very small easy to park vehicle, its worth a look. Here is what smart says about safety, which many people have uninformed opinions about.: The 2008 smart fortwo achieved the highest ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for front and side crashworthiness. The highlight of the safety management system is the tridion safety cell. The safety cell is made from steel, half of which is high-strength material, especially in highly stressed areas. The cell is designed to keep occupants protected. The reinforced steel and the design of the car, including the wheel bases, allow the distribution of the crash energy. The smart fortwo comes standard with four airbags (two full-sized front and two side for head and thorax protection). Other safety features such as Electronic Stability Program (espĀ®) , Brake Assist and anti-lock brakes are also standard. edit: everybody has an opinion on what kind of a vehicle makes sense, lots of people drive SUVs, that never go off road, trucks used as personal vehicles, 100lb soccer moms in Excursions or Suburbans, rarely is this questioned, but a well designed commuter vehicle, somehow attracts very vehement criticism. by the way smart for two is all lower case and though to an uninformed the vehicle looks the same as the original model introduced in 98 the car received a complete redesign in 2008.
- A novelty - no more. a case of beer on the passenger seat and the car is filled to capacity.Unpractical
- Sorry, but I am tired of telling everyone this. IT IS NOT CALLED SMART CAR. NO ONE SAYS HONDA CAR OR FORD CAR OR MAZDA CAR, so why say Smart car? It makes NO sense. It is called the Smart Fortwo. Bigger does not mean safer, the Smart FORTWO is a very safe car because it is smaller. It has a thicker frame and a safer frame design than SUV's. You could survive a crash into a cement wall at 60mph. I would never buy one because: 1. They are very unreliable. 2. Maintenance/repair costs are high. 3. Premium gas only. 4. They only come in automatic. No fun manual transmission. 5. They only seat 2 people, hence the name Fortwo. 6. Almost no trunk space. 7. 0-60mph in over 12 seconds and top speed of 93mph. Way too slow 8. Expensive to buy considering this car is the same old car that came out 10 years ago in Europe in 1998. 9. Best gas mileage is 41mpg, which is bad considering in is such a small car. Honda Civic and Toyota Yaris are much bigger, more reliable, more powerful, faster, handle better, and get similar gas mileage to the Smart Fortwo. Smart is a company owned by Mercedes. That is why they only come in automatics, are expensive to maintain/fix, are unreliable, and use premium gas. They use Mercedes engines.
- DumbCar. If your about the mpg go with the Honda Insight.
- No I wouldnt buy 1 why you ask because I can afford to buy a complete whole car not just half a car. Size yeah great if you live in an around town an parking is an issue but no use on the open road or highways They got that Barbie car look an no real man is going to own 1
- I think they are great, but that was in Europe where everyone drove them and was accustomed to seeing them and avoiding them. I would love to have one, especially in NY as it would be so easy to get in and out of traffic and it would be easy to park the darn thing. But... there is always the big but, if I had a car like that in the city I would also be afraid that I would be squished inbetween a bus and a cab and end up as a pancake at the nearest hospital. So, sort of torn about it. Maybe in another city other than NY, but not LA, people drive too crazy there, I would need a tank to feel comfortable to drive in that city.
