What would happen if a Smart car and a Tundra were to crash?
It's a real random question that I was wondering. Some say the smart car is safe, others say it's not. Which of the drivers would be the safest and which car would be more damaged? What car is safer?

- Everyone in the smart car would die. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ju6t-yyoU8s The car would be mostly okay, but not the people inside.
- depends on speed the people in the tundra would be safer only because it is 3 times the size
- well the smart is pretty safe for it's size but it does not really stand a chance against a Tundra..but then again there are just a few cars that can really protect the pasangers in case of a head on with a truck/suv
- The people in the smart car would all die.. its a given..
- No matter What safety rating a car gets it can't be safe, when it goes up against something three times its size. Tundra probably safer higher up.
- One of the most important things to realize is that during crash testing, they crash the vehicles into stationary objects. That means they only have to dissipate THEIR energy. When it comes to a real world crash, the heavier car has alot more energy and momentum which it transfers to the smaller car. For instance: A 1000 pound car hits a wall at 10 miles an hour. It has to negate that much momentum. Same small car hits a 3000 pound car head on, each going 10 mph. The small car will end up going the opposite direction at 5mph, while the big vehicle will still be going 5mph in its original direction. That means the small car underwent THREE TIMES the acceleration as the large vehicle (10 to -5 compared to 10 to 5.) While the smart car is safe when hitting stationary objects, it is not terribly safe when being hit by other, larger vehicles. Id much prefer being in the tundra.
